Google unveils TPU v8 and massive AI agent push as global AI adoption hits new highs

•Global AI diffusion climbs to 17.8% of working-age population, widening North–South gap and boosting coding output. Microsoft’s latest Global AI Diffusion Report shows worldwide AI usage rising 1.5 percentage points in Q1 2026 to 17.8%, with 26 economies above 30% adoption, the UAE leading at 70.1%, a growing divide between Global North (27.5%) and South (15.4%), and a 78% year-over-year surge in GitHub code pushes linked to tools like Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and GitHub Copilot.[1]

•Google Cloud launches 8th‑gen TPUs and “thousands of agents” strategy to industrialize AI automation. At Cloud Next ’26, Google introduced its 8th-generation Tensor Processing Units, including TPU 8t superpods scaling to 9,600 chips and 2 PB of high‑bandwidth memory with up to 3x Ironwood’s processing power, while pitching infrastructure and tools for enterprises to deploy and manage large fleets of AI agents for coding, security, and operations.[2]

•UNESCO reiterates global AI ethics guidance as governments and enterprises scale high‑intensity deployments. UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of AI is being invoked by policymakers and organizations as they scale frontier systems, emphasizing risk assessment, oversight, explainability, privacy, sustainability, and the need to keep ultimate human accountability over increasingly autonomous AI.[3]
